Should Christians Bear Arms

7/27/2021

Over the last year and more in the United States it seems there has been increased violence. Even in church locations. What should a Christian do? Do they respond to violence with violence? Do they prepare themselves in case violence should happen?

Christianity v. Alcohol

7/13/2021

Asking a Christian whether or not they drink may return many different answers depending on what sort of "Christianity" they subscribe to. In this video we attempt to put an end to these varied responses and present what the Bible has been trying to tell everybody for years but some still seem to not understand. Did you know that according to Harvard approximately 50% of legal adults in the US drink regularly and 12% of adults drink to excess (or legally drunk)? Thankfully these numbers are lowering and have been lowering for some time now.

Am I Your Enemy?

7/1/2021

When was the last time the preacher at church "stepped on your toes"? When was the last time you felt personally attacked by the words of a messenger of God? The Word of God has been described as a sword and it should rightly divine the truth. And so this lesson is aimed both at the church-goer but also the teachers of God's Word, intends to motivate us to push ourselves to not be complacent, lazy or accommodating in our approach to presenting scripture.

Following up on the last sermon we posted by Wayne McKamie, we have "According to the Pattern". Last time he discussed the "Ancient Landmarks" https://youtu.be/TjWv_tW2-bg This time we find ourselves continuing the search for the landmarks but noticing the patterns. Our study begins with Hebrews 8:1-13 but expands to so much more scripture throughout the New and Old Testaments.

Why does the Church ask for people to give their money?

New Testament commandment to Give:  Lay by in store
The Church of Christ strives to follow the New Testament pattern of giving.  Many denominational churches and other religious organizations promote the idea of tithing.  However, while tithing is a Biblical term, it was only practiced in the Old Testament.  1 Corinthians 16 gives us answers to many questions about New Testament Church giving.
1 Corinthians 16:1-2 KJV
(1)  Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye.
(2)  Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.

Teach Yourself To Pray

6/1/2021

The apostle Paul gave the following instructions to the brethren in Thessalonica. “16Rejoice always, 17pray without ceasing, 18in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, NKJV). Prayer is a vital part of the Christian’s life. It is the way a Christian can communicate with God expressing his thanksgiving, making his needs and desires known to God, the Father. Jesus instructed us how to pray in the following verse, “In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name” (Matthew 6:9, NKJV). Our prayers are directed to God, the Father, but we are to pray through or in the name of Jesus. The apostle Paul wrote, “giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Ephesians 5:20, NKJV).
Jesus throughout His ministry sought opportunities to pray to God. In the following verse we see Jesus separating Himself from the multitude and finding a place of solitude where He could pray. “And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there” (Matthew 14:23, NKJV). Jesus found comfort and strength through prayer during the most difficult times of His ministry. Prayer brought a “time of refreshing” for Jesus. The Christian can also find comfort and strength through prayer. Prayer will help one to avoid or overcome temptation (Mark 14:38).
We should pray that God will lead us in “paths of righteousness,” and when we come to the “valley of the shadow of death,” we will have no fear. Jesus nearing His death on the cross prayed, “nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done” (Luke 22:42, NKJV). The Christian can also know that it will be well with their soul when he allows God to lead.

If Jesus Had Come Yesterday

5/27/2021

Throughout time many have come up with their own stories and tales for what Christ's second coming will be like. But what about the morning after? What would it be like if Jesus had come yesterday? Where would you be today? What would have happened yesterday? And importantly, would you have wished you did anything differently if you had known Jesus was coming? These questions and more are discussed by Billy Dickinson.

Religious But Wrong

5/27/2021

There are many people in the world who are or claim to be religious. That means different things to different people though. What does it mean to be religious? Is there a wrong version of religious actions based on interpretation? What can we learn from the Bible on this subject? Cain and Abel, the first siblings, are told through Genesis 4, after the creation including their parents, Adam and Eve. Something should be said about the difference in their offerings though. They both brought an offering but one brother is mentioned in Hebrews 11, "the Honor Roll of Faith." Check out this lesson presented by Brett Hickey regarding what it means to be; Religious but Wrong.
